Happiness is always short-lived and suffering is always long-lasting. Why is that so?
How long does our happiness last? We are always in search of happiness . Why are we always searching for happiness? Because it is short-lived...We need to find happiness again once we experience it . Let's say after having a good meal in a nice restaurant, we feel happy, satisfied, relaxed right after a meal. How long does it last? Just a few hours before we go on to find our next happiness, ie feeding our hungry stomach with another good meal.. We want to be happy and we are always searching for happiness but we do not seem to realise that this happiness that we think we have had is always SHORT-LIVED. In another words, at that time when we experience happiness, we FEEL it and that's the end of it..It's just like having sand on your hand, feeling the weight of the sand getting lighter as it seeps through your fingers.... We feel happiness but we don't cling onto happiness because it seems that happiness is more of experiencing it rather than holding onto it..
So WHY SUFFERING is long-lasting? Unlike happiness, when we experience suffering, we feel it and we tend to CLING onto it for minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years.....depend on how clingy you are?! We keep thinking of it when we eat, sleep, work..and everywhere we go. This is how clingy we can be...if a superglue is as sticky as it is, we all capable to become the inventors of the world's most sticky , super wonder superglue..coz we tend to stick our suffering onto ourselves and bringing it along with us as we eat , sleep, travel, etc. The unhappy incident was long over but it seems to play back in our mind forever , bringing about new and bigger waves of emotions every time... in the end, we lose a lot of things like sleep, physical health, mental health, capability to feel happiness... .. and what we have got in the end, depression!
That is why we must LEARN to LET GO of suffering, the fear, the anger, the unfairness, blah blah blah .. When we learn to let go, that is when our suffering STOPS and becomes a short term suffering !
Letting go might not be an easy task...you just have to keep trying..It might take weeks for you to let go the first time or the second time or even the third time, but if you keep learning to let go, it will be faster for you to end your suffering/unhappiness one day...
Today, the tool of ending suffering is learning to let go... It is just one of the tools/ways of saying sayonara to your suffering. If you know all the other tools, you can use all of them and end suffering faster. However, if you do not learn how to use each of this tool efficiently, it is useless for you to know all of the tools because you do not know how to use all of the tools to its optimum efficiency... so don't be greedy... one step at a time.... LEtting go is the first but big major step to end suffering.
